Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I decided that we wanted sushi. And by we, I mean me. We were kinda tired of the same ol’ ‘Ra Sushi’ and ‘Kona Grill’ and we also wanted to find somewhere near my house, other than the overpriced place around the corner that will remain nameless and the fairly priced grocery store sushi.
I randomly picked a place on Yelp and we ended up in a part of town neither of us had been, at Hokkaido. It was actually so fun to the both of us because it was a real “China Town”; something I actually thought Houston didn’t have, despite being the most racially/ethnically diverse city in the US. But I was indeed mistaken.
I think it’s dope being able to live in a place and be there for nearly 8 years (like myself) or 25+ years (like my bf) and still stumble across places & areas you’ve never seen. And while that may be common, I’m from a small (very small) country. Driving into the area, we didn’t understand majority of the signs since they were all in one or another Oriental language — which means the sushi may be.. had to have been A1. And I mean that in the least offensive way possible. But in favor of my assumption.. the sushi was bomb. It was also really well priced for a good sized roll and free miso soup! Unfortunately, sometimes I suck at taking photos when I’m caught up in the amazement of something new so I was only able to capture the sushi. But that is some good looking sushi.
So as far as Hokkaido and exploring your backyard: ten out of ten – would recommend!
