How To Relieve Stress

If you’re someone who never gets stressed, bless you. But for the rest of us, there are days where sometimes the weight of the world (well maybe not that much weight) is just overwhelming and you are tempted to pick up and leave and never come back. As you may know, stress even has physical effects on the body, including weight gain! You can also become so stressed that you don’t even know that you’re stressed until you find yourself at a breaking point. Ugh, so stressful! But have no fear. Passion Fueled is here to help.

I’m a person who loves to self pamper, because hitting up the spa every week is just not in this budget yet. I thought I would share a couple of tips that have helped me unwind from a stressful day, or simply just relax my mind and my body and push that breaking point a little further away.

1. Turn off your phone!
I know, I know! Its 2015 and you can use that app to help you relax. Right? Wrong. We have become so attached to our iPhones and Galaxies that we don’t realize that the fomo (I just learned what that means) and always having to refresh our feeds, believe it or not, adds to your stress! Constantly wanting to know what people are doing, making sure you’re making your life look better than they are, or even just being in the habit of obsessively checking your social media every other minute makes your brain worry about so many unnecessary things. So I know this is never done unless your phone freezes up but hold down that power button, turn that phone off, disconnect and focus on your breathing, your self, in this moment, right now, and nothing else. Even if it’s just for a few minutes each day, this simple step will help so much in lowering those stress levels.

2. Bath Bombs

If you haven’t hopped on the bath bomb train, then that is probably why you’re stressin’ booboo! These things are phenomenal. They’re super cute and of course they smell amazing. A ton of them have ingredients in them to physically relieve stress, with oils and fragrances that can help calm your body. The ones I have here are some my boyfriend recently got for me from Central Market and they’re made by the company Enfusia. Bubble baths are soothing in itself, so adding just a little extra something into a warm bath definitely helps you feel pampered and relaxed. I also have a very normal and healthy obsession with Lush, but if you’ve ever been there, you know it’ll empty your pockets if you want a good amount of things. So these are also a great alternative because they’re a lot more affordable, which is always awesome and a stress reliever in itself 😉

3. Candles

I burn candles year round. There is something about lighting a few at the end of your day that helps to settle your spirit. For me, the flame is kind of mesmerizing and for a few moments (or longer) I can tune out the world and tune into only myself and the sound of that crackling wick. This calming nature of candles can be a simple way to reduce stress and also increase self awareness in your life. It is tranquil and in a way, I find them restorative so they are a must for me daily. Bath & Body Works is always a go-to for a wide variety of candles, but if you’re on a budget, check out your local Ross or Marshalls. They always have a great selection of candles for more than half the price! This big 2 wick one was only $7.99.

4. A nice meal
Prepared by Arielle Roper – Sriracha grilled pork chops, smashed potatoes & green beans

In the midst of the hustle and bustle, we very often find ourselves in that drive through ordering that 2 piece on that Tuesday because its quick, its easy, it doesn’t always taste that great but it gets the job done of filling out bellies for the time being and of course, its cheap. But what a great mistake we make! Sure, it seems like a good idea in that moment, but how often do you think back to what you ate today and regret inhaling those deep fried legs and thighs and then end up stressing about your body and not eating right? Oh just me? Okay… By relaxing our minds and bodies, we have to remember that we should nourish it properly as well. Take the time out to treat yourself to a filling and maybe even fancy meal if you’re feeling sophisticated. I always feel a bit more relaxed when I’m able to prepare a nice meal for myself (or have one prepared for me!). It could sometimes be a challenge attempting to cook after a long day, but in the end, its always worth it being able to sit down to a meal like this. And let’s be honest: you deserve it!

Listen, I’m no therapist, nor am I a doctor but these few steps have truly help me reduce a large amount of stress in my day to day living. If you find yourself a bit overwhelmed, or even if you just want to pamper yourself a little bit, take my advice with at least one of these tips and thank me later.

Ciao!
