"I’m an artist. I’m sensitive about my sh*t"

I’m getting a little exhausted with this rapper epidemic. Nobody seems to be interested in pursuing careers outside the music industry. This guy on Twitter sent me a direct message asking me to listen to his new hit single. Despite my slight annoyance, I went ahead and gave his song a listen. But I bet that you would be shocked if I said all he rapped about was “blowing loud”, “f*cking b*tches” and “counting stacks”, right!?. I was not impressed. And along with that, the beat was sub par and the instrumentals were crap. I went and asked him if he had any other interests or hobbies and this young man found himself getting offended at my query. He said he felt disrespected because rapping “isn’t a hobby. Rapping is his life and his lifestyle”. Rambled on about how he put his heart into his work and further expressed his hurt from my simple question.

I’m annoyed with the fact that our generation doesn’t possess more ambition. Rappers these days romanticize the music industry and lifestyle so much so we’re walking around emulating this lifestyle as best as we possibly can and ignoring what our true talents may be. Nothing about his song was original and I’ve heard it all before from other up and coming rappers as well as those who’ve “made it”. Does no one want to be a doctor anymore? Lawyers? Engineers? Businessmen? Writers? Shit, a ship captain maybe?? Does your ambition only reach what is being falsely fed to you from 2 Chainz and Drake??

Open your mind and broaden your horizons. And realize that not everything in this life will be for you. This young man was NOT good at what he was trying to pursue, at least not the material he sent to me and while I’m not discouraging him from it, by all means please pursue your dreams, you have to come to the point where you realize that not everyone can be a rapper. At the same time, not everyone can be a doctor or a ship captain. But do what you’re good at. And do it because its something you love and not because you’re chasing after some lifestyle fed to you by a celebrity. Work toward your own goals and not a goal flashing in front of your eyes on tv.

I told the guy that I didn’t like his song and that he should find a new lifestyle, since he didnt appreciate my polite question. I’m over the twerking, weighing stacks, blowing loud, repetitive rapping. I’m ready for what’s next. And I’m waiting for that one individual who will be bigger than what everyone else is rapping about. Any takers?
