So as you may have heard or read about today, Frank Ocean indirectly (or directly for some or most people) “came out” today in a post he made on his official Tumblr page. Previous to his open letter, there had been floating rumors about his sexuality when he hard a listening party for his upcoming “Channel Orange” album and there were supposedly a few or more songs which hinted or suspected him of being gay. But anyway, not going to get into the nitty gritty of how, where or when because it doesn’t really matter for the meat of this post. What I really wanted to share is my feelings toward this whole thing for those of you who care to read. Frank Ocean is the only mainstream black male artist (that I know of) who’s decided to share his sexuality openly like this. Whether he’s gay, straight, bisexual, asexual — WHATEVER, why the hell does it matter?? Whoever chooses not to listen to his music because of him saying “his first love was a man” was never a fan to begin with. You didn’t like his music because you thought he was (only) attracted to women, or did you? You listened to his music because he talked about love, heartbreak and made music that was relate-able to you. For me personally, I previously posted how much I love his music and what it does for me. And just because the entire world now knows he’s bisexual shouldn’t change how we feel about his music.

The Way I See It: Frank Ocean
With that being said, I was always and will always be a person who would never condone a homosexual lifestyle. In my beliefs and faith, I can never allow myself to. But at the same time, people’s personal sexual preferences have absolutely NOTHING to do with me. It affects me in no way. In the same light, I feel the same way about allowing homosexuals to marry. Homosexuals may not be living a right lifestyle according to the Bible and morals and ethics or WHATEVER have you but who are we as human beings — JUST LIKE THEY ARE — to take away their rights because of who they fall in love with?? If we were to base it off of the Bible, those people who lie, steal, cheat and eat pork everyday shouldnt be allowed to vote or get married, when you think about it. No seriously wait and think about it. I don’t want any Bible thumping prophets attacking me for this. You hate the sin but love the sinner and that doesn’t include taking away their rights or not listening to their music because of their sexuality. If Jesus chose to judge us harshly and chose not to love us or took away our blessings because of the sins we commit daily, we’d be in such deep you know what. But grace.. oh grace.
The bottom line is homosexual, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, whatever else there is are humans, people with human hearts, human feelings, and bleed the same human blood that the rest of us do and they have rights. Their sexuality should not determine whether they are entitled to them or not.
But back to the topic of this post, haha. I love Frank Ocean and if he decided he wants to marry a woman or man would not change the fact that I love his music because his personal or sexual life has nothing to do with mine. He’s still the undeniably talented artist that I love and that won’t change. Unless he does something real stupid to ruin his career. But until then.. #TeamFrankOcean 🙂
